Chicago Winter Overnight Parking Ban 2016

Chicago’s winter overnight parking ban starts on December 1. If you’re wondering how it could affect you this winter, here’s what you need to know:

 

How long does the winter parking ban last?

Parking is banned from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. from December 1st to April 1st, regardless of snow. The ban affects 107 miles of Chicago streets where permanent no-parking signs are posted. Parking is also banned on these streets if there is more than 2 inches of snow.  Look for these signs:

What happens if I park on one these streets?

If you forget or ignore the parking ban on these streets, your car will be ticketed and towed. The towing fee is $150, in addition to a $60 ticket and a $20 daily storage fee. Here’s a list of the auto pounds in Chicago, and you can call 311 to find out where your car was towed.

 

What if it snows?

On another 500 miles of side streets, there’s an overnight parking ban if there’s more than 2 inches of snow. While the 2” inch snow ban is not activated often, it’s good to be aware of it. You could receive a ticket or have your car relocated if the city needs to clear the streets. Look for these signs:
