Best Holiday Travel Apps

It’s easy to get overwhelmed traveling during the holiday season. We’ve rounded up the best travel apps to help you organize your travel confirmations, call a cab, and navigate the holiday season!

1. Hopper

Hopper is a great app to find deals on flights, track price drops, and book your trip. Search from hundreds of flights on domestic and international airlines for discounts and score great deals on airfare. You can also search for specific routes and set notifications to let you know when ticket prices drop. Hopper will even tell you average pricing and estimates the dates you can score the best deals.

2. Lyft

Lyft is a tried and true rideshare app to help you get where you want to go. Whether you’re traveling to the airport, hitting the beach, or coming home late at night, Lyft will connect you to drivers who will help drive you to your destination. Lyft also has features in select cities to help you find bike rentals, public transit options, car rentals, and even parking!

3. Curb

Curb is a great app to help connect you to cabs and taxis across the country. Located in over 65 U.S. cities, this app helps you hail a cab, similar to a rideshare app format. Curb has handicap-accessible cabs available at request, too. Don’t have the cash to pay for a cab? Look for cabs with the Curb logo on the outside. Once you’re in, you can pair your cab number in the Curb app and pay (and tip) with your card for a contactless experience.

4. Turo

Need a rental car but want to avoid major rental fees? Check out Turo, a car rental marketplace that allows private car owners to rent out their vehicles. Cruising the Pacific coast? Maybe offroading in the mountains? Find a car that fits your next trip’s vibe (and budget). Turo hosts often offer vehicle dropoff to airports, hotels, train stations, and more to make pickup a breeze. Plus, Turo rents to U.S. drivers 18 years of age and older, which means young adults can avoid the ever-present 25 and up age requirement at many rental companies.

5. GasBuddy

Once you’ve got your wheels, you’re gonna need to fuel up. GasBuddy helps you find the best gas prices in areas near you. The app also offers a trip planner, which allows you to estimate the cost of fuel before you hit the road. GasBuddy also offers a free card to link to your checking account. You can then find and activate deals in the app that can help you save up to 25 cents/gallon. The discount is automatically applied when you pay for your gas and works at 95% of gas stations across the country!

6. Waze

Before you hit the road, you’re going to need to navigate. Waze provides real-time traffic updates, police, construction, weather hazards, and more! Waze users can also report crashes and dead stopped traffic, so other drivers can avoid any bumps in the road.

7. SpotHero

SpotHero is an app to help connect drivers with off-street parking all over North America. You can search the app for parking lots and garages near your destination, search different rates, and reserve parking in the app. SpotHero sends you a parking pass that gives you instructions on getting to the parking facility you reserved a spot at. The app may generate a QR code for you to scan into the facility, or you may be prompted to enter your car and license plate info for the garage to account for your reservation.

8. TripIt

TripIt is a top-rated travel itinerary and trip planner app that helps you keep all of your travel documents and plans in one place. It’s easy — forward all of your travel confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com and your boarding passes, hotel reservations, car rentals, etc. will be added to your app. You can even send events to your calendar to stay organized or send them to friends and family to help them keep tabs on your upcoming trip!

9. MyTSA

Trying to guess how many fluid ounces you can carry through the security checkpoint? Maybe you’re wondering what the maximum size of your carry-on bag can be? The MyTSA app has all of these frequently asked questions and more. Check MyTSA and get estimates of how long security lines may be at the airport. The app also tells you which airports have TSA PreCheck, so you know what line to hop in when you get past the check-in desk!

Don’t forget! Enter your emergency contact information into your phone and download your favorite podcasts before you head out on your next adventure. Safe travels from SpotHero!
