Parking Pointers

All the questions you had about parking (but were too embarrassed to ask)

We know that parking can be pretty overwhelming, even for the most experienced drivers. SpotHero is here to help! Check below for suggestions to help make parking easier for drivers.

How do I parallel park?

If you aren’t a frequent parker, parallel parking can seem especially daunting. Don’t worry, you can do it, you just need a good dose of confidence!

We’ve found that there are two keys to parallel parking successfully: finding a spot that gives you enough space to maneuver into it, and lining your car up before you start backing in. You can click here for our full step-by-step guide to parallel parking.

I’m parking in a lot instead of on the street. Are there different rules for parking in a lot vs. parking on the street?

Yes, the parking lot or garage probably has its own set of rules, such as how long you can park or what spots are available to you. If you’re concerned about parking in a parking lot, check for posted signs, they should list any lot rules or restrictions.
Parking in a lot or garage also comes with its own unwritten rules. You can click here for our breakdown of parking etiquette that you can follow to ensure you are respecting fellow drivers!

What do I do if I get a parking ticket?

Oh no! Getting a ticket is no fun, but never fear; parking tickets include detailed instructions about how to resolve them.

The best way to ensure you don’t have to pay a ticket is to pay careful attention to signs and vehicle restrictions before leaving your car. We recommend taking a photo of posted signs to ensure you have all the information at your fingertips and don’t have to worry about forgetting something! If you receive a ticket while parking with a SpotHero reservation, don’t hesitate to contact the Customer Heroes, they can investigate and ensure everything is resolved appropriately!

I can’t find my car! What should I do?

Ahh, the age-old question. Maybe you are prone to forgetting where you parked, or maybe your car has been buried by winter weather. Use your maps app to drop a pin when you park your car, so it’s easy for you to locate it later. Low signal? Another option is to take a photo of your car in its spot before you leave!

If you’re expecting a big snow storm and are worried about your car getting buried or lost, SpotHero is here to help you book off-street parking in a garage!
