Parking Near Grant Park
The Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the largest parades in the country with an estimated attendance of more than two million guests annually. The parade begins at S. Columbus Dr. and E. Balbo Dr. and proceeds north to E. Monroe Dr. through Grant Park.
VIP grandstand seating is available for $60 and is located in front of Buckingham Fountain. Guests are welcome to stake out a free spot along the parade route, but keep in mind that demand is high! Street closures near Grant Park will affect access to the area as well. We recommend parking in the nearby Loop and walking over to the parade route. Chicago’s annual river dyeing draws quite the crowd! The local plumbers union has held the honor of dyeing the Chicago River bright green for more than 50 years, and their environmentally friendly dye is a closely guarded secret. The Plumber’s Union begins the process promptly at 10 am from boats positioned on the river between Columbus Drive and State Street. Spectators pack the riverwalk and surrounding bridges, so be sure to get there early to get a good spot!
